Probably the most important bridal dress designer in the U.S., Vera Wang never studied design. She studied at Chapin School, an all-girls, private day school in Manhattan and majored in art history.
She was born in New York in 1949 by Chinese parents. She began her career in fashion as an editor at Vogue, where for sixteen years, from 1979 to 1985. She realized it was time to focus on when she realized that she had little chance of a career moveProgression in the magazine. It offered the opportunity to be at Ralph Lauren as design director, and took it. She held this position for two years, then she began to work on her first bridal gown collection.
Her first boutique in Manhattan, opened its doors in 1990. Their popularity in the industry grew slowly, not by glamorous marketing campaigns, but through word of mouth.
The first time was her name became known to the public, when the American Olympic figure skatingMedalist Nancy Kerrigan told her to her costume for the Olympic Winter Games of 1994. Vera Wang, who had practiced skating as a teenager managed design (they are almost the Olympic) team, was thrilled. An even bigger break came in 2008 with one of her wedding dress featured in the Sex and the City movie.
Early in her career, it became clear to Vera, that their creative energy could not be restricted in the wedding dress industry. TheirCollections quickly expanded from wedding dresses to wear jewelry, eyes, shoes and house ware collections, and of course perfumes. The list of celebrities she designed a wedding gown can see for themselves: Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Avril Lavigne, Victoria Beckham, Sharon Stone, Uma Thurman, Holly Hunter, to name a few.
Vera Wang sees himself as an innate artist, if they are not a fashion designer, she would express her creativity as a directorwriter or a novel.
They also made some TV appearances on The Apprentice, and in the TV series as Ugly Betty (also with Victoria Bekham as herself).
